This is the story of Shay Baynes, a 21 year old woman bumbling through life trying to make her own way. She’s broken out of the pattern of run to a man for rescue, and she can take care of herself. But she had no idea the curve ball life was about to throw her.
We meet Shay over a year after a defining event in her life, the suicide of her twin sister. From that point Shay made the decision to break out, do her thing and be strong enough to do it on her own. She was able to secure a publishing deal with a small comic press and started becoming quite the household name among Comic Convention attendees and caught the attention of McNab a paranormal investigator that spotted the psychic icky that Shay carries with her.
Shay is met in her dreams by the handsome Gabriel Stokes, the hero in her comic series. Together while she sleeps they are trying to stop the Specter from killing, but until a double murder from Shay’s dreams happens down the street she had no idea that any of it was real. Now it is all too real and Shay faces jail time or the death penalty.
Aiden and Eli have fought over Shay’s heart since elementary school and have no intention of stopping now. They both want to protect her, they both want to love her and they both want to make her theirs. But Shay has other ideas, or at least the Specter does. As the Specter grows stronger and is making his way into the waking world. We realize that he does everything he does out of his love for Shay.
McNab, the paranormal investigator ads a charming flavor to the story in his strange mannerisms and mysterious background. He’s landed his own television series and compiled a staff of highly specialized paranormal investigators. He’s determined help Shay rid herself of the Specter who has brought her dreams into reality and people are dying. McNab will try to stop Eli and Aiden from making things worse with their tug of war on Shay.
Aiden is a serial abandoner, every time he and Shay get too close he disappears, but Eli is always there to pick up the pieces and keep running with the ball. Eli would give his life for Shay, and actually is. Being a brand new Assistant District Attorney fresh out of Law School and helping behind the scenes with Shay’s defense will not only cost him his career, but it could land him in jail.
Shay has already endured the loss of her sister, her mother, some of her friends and now she’s just putting things together when her neighbors get it next!
Will McNab stop the Specter?
Will Shay choose Aiden or Eli? Or will she end up in the
electric chair or worse?
